President Biden passed an executive order this week that has been met with surprise by both progressives and conservatives. This action will effectively close the US borders to asylum seekers. Usually, migrants who cross illegally and claim asylum are released into the United States to wait and plead their cases in court.
Under this new executive order, immigrants can be sent back to Mexico within hours of arrival. The order technically only goes into effect once the seven-day average for illegal entries exceeds 2,500 per day, which it already has. The borders will reopen two weeks after that average drops below 1,500 per day.
Progressives have criticized this action by saying it is too harsh, and conservatives are saying it came too late. We’d like to know what you think about Biden’s new approach to the border.
As always, results will be used to brief members of Congress. Your participation gives us a voice in Washington. Thank you!
I have complete confidence in president Bidens decision.
