Thank you to those who participated in last week’s survey. Our aim was to analyze compromise and bipartisan action in Congress. According to your responses, women overwhelmingly favor bipartisan action, with 97% of respondents saying they preferred when representatives worked with members of the opposing party.
As we know, however, it’s not always easy to find common ground. 23.9% said that you would rather some action be taken in Congress, even if it meant compromising on issues of importance. The number one issue respondents said they would be willing to compromise on was foreign policy, with 58.8% of the vote. Other issues that respondents said were worth making compromises to take action were:
Immigration (53.3%)
The Economy (43.4%)
Only a small percentage of our readership said they were open to compromising on these issues:
Abortion (12.0%)
Health Care (15.3%)
Many of you expressed skepticism about Congress’s ability to compromise in the comments.
"Congress has not been able to come to consensus on anything!"
"I don't really see it so much as compromises on the House side, but that they see benefit in the some of the same bills, although possibly for different reasons. The Senate seems to have a few more reasonable Republicans. In some instances, Senate committees have reached compromises, but the resulting bipartisan bills, such as the immigration bill, often seem to be quickly voted down by the other members. Where bipartisan bills have passed, such as the infrastructure bill, I don't think Biden is given enough credit for getting them passed. I think that he and his team work behind the scenes to convince members that they believe they can reach to support certain bills.."
"They are adding in other issues to get things passed like the TikTok ban. None of them are listening to their constituents.”
As always, we will use this survey to brief Congress on issues important to women.
